How I Discovered Toy Australian Shepherds
Australian Shepherds have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up loving their intelligence, loyalty, and the special way they become part of the family. Over the years, I had several Standard Australian Shepherds, but Trixie held an especially important place in my heart.
Â
Trixie was with me for 15 wonderful years. When she passed away, the loss was incredibly difficult. The house felt empty without her, and I knew I wasn’t ready to live without an Aussie by my side. While searching for another companion, I discovered Toy Australian Shepherds.
Â
At that time, about four years ago, I couldn’t find any Toy Aussies in Alaska. Then I found Minnie in Missouri. I felt such a strong connection to her that I purchased an airplane ticket, flew all the way to Missouri, and brought her home to Alaska myself.
Â
Minnie brought joy back into my life. She had all the intelligence, loyalty, energy, and personality I had always loved in Standard Aussies, but in a much smaller package. I quickly fell in love with the breed and found myself wishing I had discovered Toy Aussies when I was younger. I probably would have had a whole house full of them.
Â
As my love for the breed continued to grow, I later found Dexter in Texas. Once again, I got on an airplane and personally traveled to bring him home. Minnie and Dexter were both worth every mile.
These little dogs may be small, but they are incredibly intelligent, devoted, and full of personality. Minnie helped heal my heart after losing Trixie, and she and Dexter became the beginning of a wonderful new chapter in my life—and the beginning of Alaska Toy Aussies.
